Soad Saleh is a Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University and a member of the International Union of Islamic Scholars. She introduced a number of controversial fatwas such as supporting hymen reconstruction and opposing the face veil. Despite her liberal approach to religious interpretations and her participation in the liberal Al-Wafd Party, Saleh espouses some religiously conservative views.
